Posted November 15, 2013

Our client, Jeremy Yowell, recently released his new album Shepherd’s Glen – Celtic Stylings for Solo Piano. Unlike most recording artists, Yowell is also a composer and arranges music for SATB choir, piano, cello, and ensembles. With this skill set, he releases piano books to accompany his records. Black Ribbon is grateful to have printed the books for Shepherd’s Glen. The photo above is the amazing final product. Be sure to visit Jeremy’s website to get one of your own!

Invisible Cities Opera

Posted October 15, 2013

The Industry and LA Dance Project are bringing a new type of opera to Union Station. For this new experience, Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities was adapted and composed by Christopher Cerrone, directed by Yuval Sharon, and choreographed by Danielle Agami. Live singers and dancers will seemingly appear and disappear among pedestrians and everyday station activity. Each audience member will have Sennheiser wireless headphones and free reign of the venue to create their own story and reality within the performance. Black Ribbon had the honors of printing the music for this unique “invisible opera.” Check out the slideshow below to see our work in action during rehearsals. Watch the following video for more information and a behind-the-scenes look at this amazing production.

Gloria Estefan: The Standards

Posted September 17, 2013

Gloria Estefan released her new album, The Standards, on September 10. The album includes songs from the Great American Songbook, along with Brazilian and Argentinean classics. These classics have great emotional value from Estefan’s childhood, musical heritage, and who she is today.

“I think it helps to have life under your belt before you do these songs. They have a lot of nuances because of the time, they used a lot of subtext, and I think it helps to really understand the different layers of the song when you’re going to interpret them.” (H&N)

“I chose some of the most beloved songs of all time, songs that spoke to me personally,” Gloria said. “We recorded the album live in the studio with a core group of four incredibly talented musicians, all maestros of this genre, and a wonderful orchestra. Something really special happens when musicians record together live — it was magical.” (PBS)

“The challenge for me was to make these songs my own since they’ve already been recorded time and time again by some of the greatest singers of all time. That’s why I chose songs that had special meaning and relevance in my own life.” (Billboard)

Check out the videos from Estefan’s TV appearances including: CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, and a concert special on PBS Black Ribbon had the honor of printing the music for several of Estefan’s recent performances – Música Latina: In Performance at the White House, the bonus video on iTune’s release of The Standards, and her upcoming European tour.
